Ammon News - ROME (Petra) Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh on Wednesday held talks with his Italian Counterpart Emma Bonino on Jordanian-Italian ties and developments in the Middle East as well as efforts to breathe life into the peace process.

Judeh expressed Jordan's strong condemnation of the Israeli settlers' storming of Al Aqsa Mosque and the serious developments in the area as well as the detention of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Mohammed Hussein.

These continuous acts, the minister said, are a clear violation of international and international humanitarian law and pose a real threat to efforts to revive the peace process. They also provoke the feelings of Muslims in the holy city and threat regional security and stability, the minister affirmed. Judeh told his Italian counterpart that the government has summoned the Israeli envoy to Jordan and asked him to deliver a strong-worded message to his government.

The Italian minister said she was following these developments, adding that they don't serve efforts to kick-start peace talks, mainly at this stage.

The two ministers also reviewed efforts to achieve peace. Judeh underlined the importance of starting serious and effective talks with a timetable that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital, based on international terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The Syrian crisis figured high on the meeting agenda, where the two officials reiterated the need for concerted efforts to stop the bloodshed and prevent more devastation and violence in Syria.

Judeh reiterated Jordan's stand, which calls for a political solution that ends the bloodshed and guarantees the security and stability of Syria as well as its territorial unity.

The minister also spoke about the burdens borne by the Kingdom as a result of the influx of Syrian refugees, urging the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and help Jordan in this regard.

The two sides underlined the depth of ties between Jordan and Italy and their desire to cement these ties in various domains.

The Italian minister valued the Jordanian efforts to realize peace and security across the Middle East.
