PM meets briefed on Jordan-Saudi mining deal

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour was briefed on Tuesday by visiting Saudi minister of oil and mineral resources Ali Bin Ibrahim al-Nueimi and Minister of energy and mineral resources Alaa Batayneh on a memo MoU of understanding signed by the two countries for cooperation in the mining sector.

The MoU stipulates cooperation between Jordan and Saudi Arabia in exploiting mineral resources, updating data on minerals and mines and exchanging expertise and experts in the mining sector as well as cooperating in legislation, mining policies and investment promotion in the sector.

Welcoming the Saudi minister and an accompanying delegation, Ensour spoke about the historically deep ties between the two kingdoms in various fields and commended Riyadh's support of Jordan's developmental programmes.

He also spoke about the huge economic challenge posed to Jordan by hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, noting that the exodus had recently risen to unprecedented levels.
