Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Monday briefed Gulf Cooperation Council GCC ambassadors on the humanitarian impact of the Syrian conflict on Jordan.
Judeh updated the envoys of the six-nation GCC on a meeting he had yesterday with representatives of U.N. humanitarian and relief agencies in which they agreed on closer coordination between the organisations and Jordanian ministries and institutions to upgrade services provided to Syrian refugees in health, education and humanitarian fields.
Noting that Jordan currently hosts more than 250,000 refugees on its territory that had put additional economic pressures on the Kingdom, Judeh called for concerted efforts by "sister" Arab countries and the world community to help Jordan in this humanitarian endeavour.
He pointed to His Majesty King Abdullah's directives to provide a safe haven and the necessary services to the Syrian "brothers" who take refuge in Jordan and to continue receiving them "regardless of any other considerations".
Judeh said Jordan appreciated support by the GCC nations to the Kingdom which is suffering under tough economic conditions.
The minister agreed with the ambassadors to hold regular meetings as they commended Jordan's humanitarian efforts toward the displaced Syrians and reaffirmed their countries' support of that role.
