The April 6 Youth Movement has released a song entitled "Say No to the Constitution" sung by several organisation members, with lyrics written by Hossam El Hakary and music composed by Mostafa Ezzat.
The song's chorus calls on people to vote No to a constitution that does not represent all Egyptians or the revolution's demands. The song dives into issues of free healthcare, a right not represented in the draft constitution, and the right to free education. The song also points to the absence of mechanisms to ensure social justice, which was one of the main demands of the January 25 Revolution.
The song points to the president's extraordinary powers, granted in the proposed constitution, along with the undermining of judicial independence.
The song also touches on the right to protest, on military trials of civilians, and the diversionary tactics of Islamist forces in confusing people about the constitution and the core issues at stake.
