Future Shorts, which screens international short films, first came to Cairo in winter 2012 and has since gained attention from Cairo's culture fans.
Previously held in cultural spots such as Darb 1718 and Left Bank, this fall the eccentric festival plays out at Bikya Maadi.
The festival is a cross-cultural initiative that takes place simultaneously in approximately 285 cities worldwide. It showcases a standardised programme of short films with local music and art in the background. The screenings are usually held in warehouses, galleries, theatres and a number of other cultural locations.
The fall edition of Future Shorts will feature Egyptian film Cafe Regular, which was awarded a special jury mention at the Tribeca Film Festival. Also on the programme; A Brief History of John Baldessari narrated by Tom Waits, best short film nominee at BAFTA Scotland Ride, Sundance Short Filmmaking award-winner The Black Balloon and the multiple award-winning Auf Der Strecke (On the Line).
The promising line-up of conceptual short films will be preceded by performances by local musicians on both nights.
