Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Head of the Jordanian Teachers' Associatiaon Mustafa Rawashdeh on Sunday renewed calls for the release of pro-reform activists who have been arrested and detained following the recent wave of protests against government's economic policies.
Rawashdeh called for the release of what he described as "opinion prisoners," and stressed that their arrest contradicts government's promises of comprehensive reforms.
Security forces arrested over 150 people since mid November after protests and riots erupted throughout the kingdom in reaction to the government's decision to float fuel prices, which caused a substantial hike in prices.
The State Security Court (SSC) had released 39 detainees late last week, after taking a decision to release 57 detainees after clearing them of any misconduct.
Rawashdeh stressed in statements to Ammon News on Sunday the need to release the remaining prisoners, including two teachers who are members of the Teachers' Association, including Eyad Abu Ajeimeh and Muhammad Salah.
