Ammon News - Angelina Jolie has travelled to Syria's border with Jordan to meet exhausted Syrian refugees who have just completed the perilous crossing.

The actress, who is a UN special envoy, met a family who moved from Damascus to their home town of Daraa four months ago.

They told Jolie how they had hoped the situation would improve, but with no electricity, water or food and amid fears for their safety, the mother said they had no choice but to flee.

"When the bombing got really fierce and non-stopping, we used to hide in the holes under the ground. But when the weather got bad and the rains started, all of these holes under the ground were flooded with water, so it wasn't suitable," she said.

Since Jolie's last visit in September, the number of registered Syrian refugees in the region has increased by more than 200,000 and in Jordan alone by nearly 50,000.

She and her partner, Brad Pitt, have recently made a donation of 50,000 dollars for the purchase of family tents.
