AMMAN — The Jordan Football Association (JFA) has confirmed that the U-19 national team is set to compete in a friendly tournament from October 20-24 in the UAE.
Ahmad Qteishat, JFA technical department head, told Al Rai daily that the JFA had confirmed to its UAE counterpart that the U-19 team would play at the tourney.
The team left for Turkey on Sunday for a 10- day training camp which will also include two friendlies. Jordan beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 ahead of the weekend as the team prepares for the U-19 Asian Youth Championship slated for November 2-17 in the UAE.
Head coach Jamal Abu Abed sounded upbeat in the local media after the result against Saudi Arabia, saying the team showed “considerable improvement in the last phase and played a good match’’.
He noted the team would have a condensed agenda in Turkey with a match against the U-21 Galatasaray squad.
Last week, Jordan hosted Iraq — losing the first match 2-0 before rebounding to win the second 3-1. Jordan also hosted Iraq’s Zawra Club — losing 2-0 before drawing 2-2 in the second match.
“Our aim is to make sure the team reaches the Youth World Cup,’’ team manager Maher Tumeh told local media.
