Ammon News - AMMONNES-Jordan condemned remarks by the Israeli government's legal advisor, that the Haram al Sharif mosque compound, in occupied Jerusalem, is part of Israel.
State Minister for Media Affairs and Communications, Samih Maayteh, said Jordan would reject an Israeli attempt, to assert its control on Islamic holy shrines in Jerusalem and undermine Jordan’s role towards them.
The minister said, such provocative Israeli statements, might ignite an all-out religious conflict in the region, as Israel, is trying to judaize the holy city and change its history, religious and cultural heritage.
He said, East Jerusalem, including the Haram al Sharif compound, is part of land occupied in 1967 under international law.
Jordan, he added, considers the statement, an affront to the historical Hashemite role in Jerusalem.
