Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Representatives of Ma'an governorate tribes met on Friday to discuss the detention of the ex-Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) mayor, Omar Ma'ani, and called on the government to release him on bail.
Ma'ani was apprehended late last week on claimed corruption charges, and a judge ordered his detention for 15 days pending further investigation.
The tribal representatives of the southern governorate of Ma'an called on the government to release Maani and commence trial measures "until the truth is revealed."
Meanwhile, sources in Ma'an denied to Ammon News reports that the tribal representatives gave the government an "ultimatum" until Sunday to release Maani, calling the reports "baseless."
The sources added that Ma'an tribes will issue a statement to the press, explaining their perspective on the detention of Amman's former mayor.
