Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Salhoub Prison, which has a reputation of a luxury 5-star detention center, is no different than all other prisons in Jordan, Director of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers Department said.
"All prisons in Jordan are 5-stars," Brigadier General Waddah Hmoud said on Tuesday on Ro'ya TV, denying rumors that inmates at Salhoub pay to serve their sentences there.
Regarding recent statements by government officials on releasing all political prisoners, Hmoud said that there are no political prisoners in Jordan except convicted inmates who are members of banned "organizations," who were convicted on terrorism charges, Nowjo reported.
Hmoud noted that inmates in Jordanian prisons, a total of 6,066, receive good medical and service care, which put Jordan in line with model countries in the region in regards to reform and rehabilitation of inmates.
he added that 77 inmates in Jordan are on death row, including 7 women. 5 members of banned organizations are also on death row.
The last execution was carried out in Jordan in 2006 on inmates convicted in the 2002 assassination of American diplomat Laurence Foley.
