Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS — The U.S. Embassy is hosting Susan Henderson, the Executive Director of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund in Amman on a visit from Oct. 8 – 13.

Ms. Henderson aims to share the American experience and learn about the Jordanians’ experience in securing the full inclusion of both countries’ disabled populations.

Henderson will visit the Academy for Educational Development (AED), Mercy Corps and disabled organizations like the Higher Council for Persons with Disabilities (HCD) and several other NGOs. Henderson will also visit the Hashemite University in Zarqa, the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Salt and Yarmouk University in Irbid on issues of inclusion and improving visibility and quality of life for disabled people.

Susan Henderson has been the Executive Director for Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, Inc. (DREDF), since 1997. Her work includes direction of the Children and Family Advocacy and the Media & Disability Programs. In 2006, she helped start DREDF's Foster Youth Resources for Education (FYRE) project to heighten awareness and protect the rights of children with disabilities in the child welfare system. Henderson has worked in non-profit and law firm management and finance for 20 years.
The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) is the only independent, non-government mandated national disability civil rights law and policy organization managed and directed by people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities.
