Zenga Zenga: Mock YouTube music video of Gadhafi speech is an Arab hit

01-03-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News - A YouTube musical clip mocking Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi is a big hit in the Arab world, Al Arabiya TV reports.

Zenga Zenga was created by Tel Aviv music journalist and blogger Noy Alooshe. It shows Gadhafi banging his fist on a podium during a speech on state TV last week and is paired with the track from Hey Baby by U.S. rappers Pitbull and T-Pain.

Alooshe's original video features a female dancer in skimpy clothing, an homage, he says, to Gadhafi's famed female bodyguards. It has gotten almost 2 million views on YouTube.

He put out a second version without the dancers, he says, after some viewers said the original was too risqué, Al Arabiya reports. It has received around 270,000 views.

Alooshe says he does not speak Arabic but was struck by Gadhafi's use of the catchy Arabic word "zenga" that to Libyans refers to a small neighborhood.

Alooshe says he has gotten positive feedback on his Facebook page and by e-mail from viewers in Arab countries, even after they figure out he is Israeli.

"Of course, there were those who hurled the usual abuse, and I was even branded a Mossad spy, but I have many friend requests pending for my Facebook page," he says, according to Al Arabiya.
