Senate Committee, Canadian Ambassador talk cooperation

07-09-2026 03:55 PM

Ammon News - The Senate's Jordanian-Canadian Friendship Committee and Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Louis-Martin Aumais on Monday discussed prospects of expanding cooperation in political, economic, development, and energy fields, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Senator George Hazboun, head of the Senate committee, highlighted the longstanding ties between Jordan and Canada and called for broader cooperation and coordination and exchange of expertise.

He noted Jordan’s role in addressing the repercussions of regional crises, particularly refugees, pointing out that hosting large numbers of refugees has placed additional pressure on the Kingdom’s education, health, infrastructure, and public services sectors.

Hazboun urged continued international aid for Jordan to address these constraints.

He also underscored the importance of expanding economic and trade relations, pointing to investment opportunities in agriculture, mining, pharmaceuticals, water, and infrastructure. He additionally cited potential for greater cooperation in education, technology, expertise exchange, and religious tourism.

For his part, Aumais reaffirmed Canada’s interest in closer cooperation with Jordan across various sectors, and acknowledged the Kingdom’s efforts in hosting refugees and addressing regional challenges.

He pledged Ottawa will pursue support for Jordan and international organizations involved in the refugee response, calling for directing aid toward strengthening host communities and supporting key sectors.
