Ammon News - The national Muay Thai fighters Omer Awad and Yazan Al-Saifi said winning two gold medals at the Senior Muay Thai World Championship in Deçan, Kosovo, has encouraged them to continue training, develop their skills and seek further achievements in upcoming competitions.
The two fighters said their victories were the result of good preparation and commitment over the past period. They noted that the competition was strong and that the achievement provided additional motivation to continue training, improve their performance and achieve further results.
Awad, who won the under-67kg gold medal, said winning the world title was an important milestone in his sporting career. He expressed his happiness at reaching the podium after a competitive campaign.
He said the championship bouts required a high level of concentration, particularly against opponents with strong skills and experience. He added that winning the final and securing the gold medal would motivate him to continue training and work on improving his performance in the coming period. He also expressed his pride in representing Jordan at the international championship.
Al-Saifi, who won gold in the under-75kg category, said the medal was an important achievement for him. He expressed his happiness at representing Jordan and seeing the national flag raised on the podium.
He said his campaign featured strong competition, adding that focus and adherence to technical instructions were important factors in reaching the final and securing victory.
Al-Saifi added that the world title would encourage him to continue training and developing his skills, while working to maintain the level he demonstrated at the championship and achieve further results for Jordanian Muay Thai.
Jordan Muay Thai Federation President Hakam Al-Ajarmeh said Jordan participated with three fighters. Despite the limited number, the national team won two gold medals, while the third fighter was eliminated after sustaining an injury that led the referee to stop his bout.
He said the elite world championship is one of the strongest competitions, with participation requiring a fighter to have previously competed in a world championship. He added that Jordan’s results confirmed the presence of Jordanian fighters on the international stage, with the Jordanian national anthem played twice and the Jordanian flag raised at the championship.
Ajarmeh said the achievement was the result of joint efforts by several parties, particularly the federation’s training centers, where athletes begin their development, as well as families for their support and the Jordan Olympic Committee.
He said the national team contested eight bouts during the championship, winning seven and losing one due to injury. He added that the Jordanian fighters delivered strong performances and received praise from various participating teams and delegations.
The federation president said the Jordanian team entered the championship aiming to compete for gold rather than simply participate. He noted that the achievement came only days after the team took part in the Arab Championship in Libya, where it won six medals, including two golds.
Ajarmeh attributed the strong performances of Jordanian athletes in combat sports to the high morale and determination of Jordanian fighters, saying they consistently aspire to win titles and reach the top of the podium.
Awad won the under-67kg gold medal after defeating Turkish fighter Gurkan Yildiz, who withdrew before the bout ended. Al-Saifi won the under-75kg gold medal after defeating Bulgarian Viktor Krashevski in the final.
Awad began his campaign by defeating Polish world champion Bartosh Pamula by knockout in the first round. He then defeated Croatia’s Robert Rizo in the quarterfinals before beating Vietnam’s An Ca Tuan by technical knockout in the third round of the semifinal.
Al-Saifi reached the semifinal after defeating Lebanon’s Joan Saif in the quarterfinal. He then defeated Georgia’s Duta Gabelia in the semifinal to secure his place in the final.
The two gold medals add to Jordan’s achievements in Muay Thai and reflect the development of the fighters’ level and their ability to compete in international championships, as the national team seeks to continue reaching the podium in upcoming competitions.
