Ammon News - The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) announced on Sunday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Palestine decreased by 0.40 percent in May 2026 compared with April 2026.
According to a statement issued by the bureau, the decline was driven by a 0.97 percent decline in the West Bank and a 0.32 percent decline in Jerusalem, while the Gaza Strip recorded a slight increase of 0.30 percent.
The overall monthly decline in consumer prices was attributed to lower prices for several key commodities, including dried vegetables, which fell by 15.80 percent, fresh vegetables by 11.91 percent, wheat flour by 10.29 percent, fresh fruits by 8.32 percent, sugar substitutes and other sweeteners by 6.96 percent, potatoes by 5.94 percent, diesel fuel by 3.58 percent, vegetable oils by 3.57 percent, and rice by 1.81 percent.
On an annual basis, comparing May 2026 with May 2025, the CPI in Palestine declined by 36.96 percent. The Gaza Strip recorded the sharpest decrease at 59.96 percent, while consumer prices increased by 3.21 percent in Jerusalem and by 2.69 percent in the West Bank.
The Consumer Price Index is a key measure used to track changes in the cost of living and inflation trends over time.
