Ammon News - The Al-Hisha area in the highlands of Shobak District, west of Ma’an Governorate, witnessed snowfall on Thursday morning, accompanied by widespread fog, significantly reduced horizontal visibility, strong winds, and extremely cold conditions.
The Public Security Directorate (PSD) warned drivers in these areas, urging them to exercise maximum caution while driving.
Weather specialists at ArabiaWeather forecast snowfall on Thursday morning, with possible temporary accumulation over the highest peaks of the southern high mountains (Sharah Mountains). These include Ras Al-Naqab peaks (along the Desert Highway connecting to Aqaba), Jabal Mubrak, and surrounding areas such as Ayl, Rajef, and Southern Taybeh in Petra District, as well as the high elevations of Shobak, Al-Hisha, the King’s Highway linking Shobak and Wadi Musa, in addition to the high peaks of Qadisiyah and Rashadiyah.
Across northern and central regions, including the capital Amman, conditions are expected to be cold with intermittent rainfall. Rain may be heavy at times, particularly in the north, accompanied by low clouds and fog reaching ground level. Rainfall is also expected to extend to eastern areas, where it may become thundery, leading to runoff in valleys and low-lying areas.
Recommendations for Thursday:
*Exercise extreme caution in southern regions due to the high risk of flash floods and rising water levels in valleys; avoid low-lying areas and do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
*Beware of potential rockfalls in mountainous slopes prone to such hazards.
*Be cautious of slippery conditions due to snowfall over high mountain peaks in the Sharah Mountains during the morning hours.
Watch for fog and reduced visibility in mountainous areas.
*Exercise caution due to the risk of vehicles skidding on roads, especially at the onset of rainfall or hail, as well as during snowfall in the highlands of Tafila and the Sharah range.
