Petra visitor numbers jump to 582,550 in 2025

Ammon News - Official statistics issued by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) showed a significant improvement in the number of foreign visitors during 2025, reflecting a gradual restoration of confidence in Petra as a global tourist destination after the regional and international challenges of recent years.

The total number of visitors to Petra during 2025 reached about 582,550 visitors, achieving an increase of 27% compared to 2024, which recorded 457,215, according to the statistics.

Regarding foreign visitors, the data showed a mixed timeline during the period 2019–2025; the number of foreign visitors in 2019 reached about 1,000,179 visitors, before the numbers declined to 271,760 visitors in 2020, and 135,229 visitors in 2021, affected by the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.

Foreign tourism recorded a gradual recovery in 2022 and 2023, with the number of visitors reaching 683,798 in 2022 and 985,696 in 2023, before experiencing a sharp decline in 2024 to 257,284 foreign visitors, a decrease of 74%, as a result of regional developments.

In 2025, the number of foreign visitors rose again, recording 373,752 visitors and a growth rate of 45% compared to 2024, with foreign visitors constituting 64% of the total number of visitors to Petra during the year.

In addition, October recorded the highest number of visitors during 2025 with 81,069 visitors, while December witnessed a remarkable improvement with 53,383 visitors, achieving a growth of 95% compared to the same month of 2024, the data showed.

These indicators reflect a gradual return of confidence in Petra as a global tourist destination, and the beginning of a recovery in tourism activity, following the return of various airlines to the region, especially low-cost airlines.
