Ammon News - The Iraqi Council of Representatives decided on Tuesday to postpone the session dedicated to electing the President of the Republic until further notice. The decision comes amid ongoing political disagreements, particularly between the main Kurdish parties.
In a brief statement, the parliament’s media department confirmed that the scheduled session had been postponed. Earlier in the day, Speaker of Parliament Haibat Al Halbusi announced receiving official requests from the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to delay the vote.
According to Halbusi’s media office, the two parties asked for additional time to reach an understanding and agreement on the presidential candidate. The request aimed to ease tensions and allow space for political consensus before proceeding with the constitutional process.
