13-01-2026 10:41 AM

Ammon News - The United Nations announced that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip "remains critical" due to the harsh weather conditions, noting that the number of acute malnutrition cases has risen to approximately 95,000.

This came in a statement by the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, during a press conference on Monday evening.

Dujarric pointed out that staff from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains critical, and indicated that the harsh weather conditions are jeopardizing the progress made in meeting the significant shelter needs.

He added: "1.1 million people are still in dire need of assistance, as heavy rains continue to damage and destroy most existing shelters."

Regarding malnutrition, Dujarric reported that UN humanitarian partners conducted screenings for more than 76,000 children last month, identifying approximately 4,900 cases of acute malnutrition.

He said, "This brings the total number of acute malnutrition cases recorded in 2025 to approximately 95,000."
