Mediators intensify pressure to start negotiations on second phase of Gaza ceasefire

16-02-2025 08:51 AM

Ammon News - Mediators are intensifying their pressure on Israel to push it to start negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza.

This comes as the Israeli government headed by occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu periodically places obstacles that threaten the continuation of the agreement, and continues to procrastinate in starting negotiations for the second phase of it.

Israel Broadcasting Authority quoted unnamed Israeli sources as saying that international mediators, led by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, are pressing to start negotiations for the second phase of the Gaza agreement "as soon as possible."

The sources explained that Israel needs to "manage the negotiations seriously" to ensure the release of the rest of its prisoners held in Gaza.

They warned that delaying the resumption of negotiations could lead to "complicating the implementation of the rest of the agreement's stages."
