Israeli forces continue assault on Jenin for 4th day, leaving 12 killed

24-01-2025 12:00 PM

Ammon News - The Israeli occupation forces continued their assault on the city and refugee camp of Jenin for the fourth consecutive day, so far leaving 12 Palestinians killed, dozens injured and detained, and causing widespread destruction to infrastructure and civilian properties.

Mansour Saadi, Deputy Governor of Jenin, reported that Israeli forces have blocked all four main entrances to the city and its refugee camp with earth mounds, preventing entry and exit.

Saadi pointed out to the dire conditions at Jenin Governmental Hospital, which is struggling to provide care due to power outages and fuel shortages caused by the ongoing Israeli assault.

The Israeli military attack includes aerial bombardments and ground raids, forcing hundreds of residents to flee the camp. Local sources confirmed that Israeli forces set fire to homes belonging to the Masharqa family in the camp and prevented firefighters from extinguishing the flames.

One elderly woman, unable to leave due to health issues, remains trapped in her home in the Masharqa building. The family has issued urgent calls for her evacuation.

Additionally, the forces evicted the family of Ahmad Abu al-Heija from their home on Mahyoub Street in the Jenin refugee camp, converting it into a military post.

Meantime, the Israeli occupation forces imposed a strict curfew, forcing residents to leave their homes at gunpoint. Those attempting to exit are funneled through a single corridor where biometric scans of their eyes and faces are conducted before they can leave.

Residents have been redirected to a heavily guarded area near the al-Awda Roundabout west of the camp, while threats of demolitions and further home demolitions loom.

Israeli bulldozers have also demolished homes on the outskirts of the camp. One such home belonged to Yazan Hanoun, a local Palestinian resident, in the camp's western edge.

Simultaneously, Israeli forces have carried out detentions in Nablus Street and other neighborhoods within the city, subjected several residents to field interrogations, and stationed snipers on tall buildings overlooking the camp to tighten control.

The main road leading to Jenin Governmental Hospital has been destroyed, with its entrances blocked by dirt barriers, making it nearly impossible to transport the injured and sick. Surrounding areas of Al-Razi and Ibn Sina Hospitals have also been cordoned off.

Israeli forces, accompanied by D10 armored bulldozers, remain stationed on Haifa Street, carrying out widespread detentions and distributing leaflets with threats to residents.

The siege has also plunged large parts of Jenin, including the refugee camp, into darkness as Israeli forces cut off electricity. This has disrupted operations at Jenin Governmental Hospital and Ibn Sina Hospital, with attempts by electricity crews to restore power being blocked. WAFA
