Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) stressed the need to enhance public freedoms and public participation in decision-making, describing it as a necessary and urgent requirement to achieve essential reforms in legislation and policies related to civil rights and public freedoms.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NCHR said that a new electoral law needs to be endorsed to achieve a real democratic uplift in Jordan.
It stressed that enhancing public freedoms will contribute to improving economic and social conditions in the kingdom.
The Center blasted that successive Jordanian governments have been lax in implementing political, economic, and social reforms that would be in line with the Jordanian constitution, international agreements, and have not worked to enhance public freedoms, particularly freedom of opinion, expression, and the press, the statement said.
Such negligence in implementing reforms "constitute the gravest danger to the safety and security of society and for national unity," the statement added.
