Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - On behalf of the Jordanian government, Planning and International Cooperation Minister, Imad Fakhoury, on Thursday signed a grant agreement of additional fund with the World Bank (WB).

The $10, 8 million- grant is part of supporting host communities of Syrian refugees' project "emergency service and social resilience", a statement by the ministry said.

The grant was provided by the UK and Denmark through the WB's credit fund, increasing the total international assistance for the project to $67 million, which helped strengthening resilience of municipalities that were affected by the Syrian refugee' crisis, in line with the Jordan Response Plan (JRP).

The project aims at helping several municipalities and host communities to address direct impacts of refugees and empowering municipalities to support domestic economic development through funding them to implement sub-projects. It also aims at boosting existing services such as solid waste management, rehabilitating roads and infrastructure, lighting streets, pests control, social aid, water networks and sewage systems, the statement added.

The project will also provide municipalities with technical aid to help them plan, manage and implement sub-projects within a program that includes evaluation of emergency readiness, risk management and training employees.

Sixteen municipalities, in Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa, Maan, Ajloun, Madab and Balqa, will benefit from the fund and were chosen in accordance with the WB criteria, the statement said , adding that16 municipalities will benefit from the $10, 8 grant provided by UK and Denmark. It is expected that Jordan receive more aid to include more municipalities, the ministry said.

The project will be implemented by WB and the Planning Ministry in cooperation with Municipal Affairs Ministry and various concerned government institutions.
