Ed. Minister denies circular banning teachers from media work

30-08-2010 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A circular issued by Minister of Education Dr. Khaled Karaki disclosed that teachers of all public schools in the Kingdom will no longer be permitted to work at media outlets.

The circular, a copy of which was obtained by 'Ammon news,' entitled "Work in media Institutions,” signed on August 22, 2010, requests from all education departments to give their employees who are affiliated with various media institutions an ultimatum until December 31st, 2010 to "correct their conditions and be committed full-time for their original jobs."

The circular added that all permissions warranted to employees to work in media outlets will be considered null and void after the ultimatum date.

Meanwhile, media reports stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Karaki had denied issuing such a circular.

It is noted that former Minister of Education, Dr. Tayseer Nu'eimi had allowed Education Department directors and teachers to work elsewhere outside of official work hours with the condition that such extra work does not obstruct the employees' official jobs and that the extra work is not related to the Education Departments or causes a conflict of interest.

Al Arab Al Yawm daily newspaper had reported on Saturday that Dr. Karaki had issued the circular, a matter that prompted the Minister to deny the reports on Sunday.
