King meets UNWTO Secretary General

Ammon News - AMMAN - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday met Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization UNWTO Taleb Rifai and discussed scopes of cooperation between Jordan and the UN organisation in the tourism field especially promotion, training and transfer of know-how.

King Abdullah spoke about the Kingdom's plans and programs to develop tourism, achieve the sector's sustainable growth, and maintain the Kingdom's status as a major travel destination for Arab and world tourists.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized agency of the United ‎Nations and the leading international organization in the field of tourism.

UNWTO plays a central and decisive role in promoting the development of responsible, ‎sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the ‎interests of developing countries.

‎ Taleb Rifai was elected earlier this year as secretary general of the agency becoming the first Arab to run the 154-member body.
