King Dissolves Parliament, Calls for Early Elections

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - King Abdullah II on Thursday issued a Royal Decree dissolving the 16th Parliament as of Thursday, October 4th, 2012.
The King's decision to dissolve the parliament comes in accordance with Article 34 (iii) of the Jordanian Constitution, which gives the king prerogative to dissolve the Chamber of Deputies.
Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh had submitted an official recommendation earlier on Thursday to the King to dissolve the House of Representatives, in preparation to hold early elections slated for early 2013.
Tarawneh's government would have to submit its resignation within one week of the dissolution of parliament, in accordance with the Jordanian constitution, which also stipulates that the Prime Minister who recommends the dissolution of parliament may not head the succeeding government.
Another Royal Decree was issued Thursday calling for holding early parliamentary elections in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The Royal Decree is in accordance with Article 34 (i) of the Jordanian constitution, which gives the king prerogative to hold elections to the Chamber of Deputies in accordance wit the provisions of the law.
