Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - To mark Canada Day, the Embassy of Canada held a festival for the whole family at the Royal Botanic Garden on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
The Royal Botanic Garden, just outside Amman on a hilltop in Tell Al Rumman, is part of a green initiative which aims to preserve Jordan’s natural beauty, demonstrate sustainable eco-living, and educate visitors about the biodiversity of the country. “We are excited to be able to partner with such a great initiative, not only to celebrate Canada, but to acknowledge the strong relationship we have with Jordan,” noted Ambassador Mark Gwozdecky. More than 900 Canadians and friends of Canada in Jordan joined in this outdoor event, and were delighted to meet performers from Canada’s world-renowned Cirque du Soleil. The guests also enjoyed Canadian music, children’s activities, and Nanaimo bars – a Canadian treat.
The event raised more than 8,000 JD which will be distributed between the RBG and the Jordan Education for Women Empowerment and Learning Society (JEWELS). JEWELS supports women’s graduate education in various fields and creates opportunities for exceptionally deserving young Jordanian women to pursue post-graduate studies through scholarships in Canada.
The embassy wishes to thank the following sponsors for their generous support for this event: Middle East Payment Services, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Zain, Business Development Center, Arab Potash, GMKhoury, Arab consultants Bureau, Wajih Contracting Co. W.L.L., Bombardier Inc., Le Méridien, Brightpower Group, Petra Travel & Tourism Co., Al-Nisr Al-Arabi Insurance, Microsoft, Jordanian Canadian College, Royal Jordanian, Abu Shakra Trading Company, Second Cup, Kaylani Food Centre, and the Meat Master, and Wood Worx.
