King attends military drill

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces on Thursday attended a military exercise that was performed in Al Shidiyya region in southern Jordan by units taking part in the " Eager Lion 2012" Drill.

The King, who was accompanied by HRH Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mashaal Mohammad Zaben and a number of officers from participating countries, was briefed on stages of the exercise which is held with the participation of 19 countries.

The King watched live shooting carried out by jet fighters and helicopters from the Royal Air Force and a number of participating countries.

Traditional weapons from infantry , armored and artillery units were also used in the exercise. His Majesty hailed the troops high level of precision, combat readiness and fitness.

Exercise Eager Lion is part of a long history of multilateral military exercises in Jordan which includes troops from five different continents and more than 12,000 participants.

The focus of Eager Lion is to strengthen military-to-military relationships of participating partner nations through a joint, whole-of-government, multinational approach, integrating all instruments of national power to meet current and future national security challenges.

In addition to Jordan and the US, troops from Saudi Arabia, Australia, Bahrain, Brunei, Egypt, France, Iraq, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon, Slovenia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Britain and Pakistan, among others, are also participating in the military exercise.
