Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Tens of people on Tuesday evening protested in front of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) office in Amman calling for its closure after the agency reported weeks before that King Abdullah's motorcade was attacked with rocks and empty bottles during the king's visit to the southern governorate of Tafileh.
The crowd surrounded the AFP Bureau office, located near the Second Circle in Amman, and attacked the office’s Gendarmerie Cordon in addition to throwing juice bottles. Gendarmerie forces encircled the group in an effort to calm them down and avoid further vandalism of the office.
Member of Parliament Yahya Saud headed the group and threatened Prime Minister Maarouf Bakhit’s government of offensive action if the government does not shut down AFP offices in Amman within 24 hours.
They indicated that they will return Wednesday evening if their demands of shutting down AFP are not met.
On June 15, a group of 'unknown' individuals attacked the global news agency AFP’s office, broke windows and vandalized the property after raiding into its reception area. They threw rocks and vandalized contents of the office vicinity. The case is still under investigation.
