Licensed building areas drop 9.9% in first 9 months of 2024
The total area of licensed buildings in Jordan from January to September 2024 reached approximately 6.36 million square meters, marking a 9.9 percent decline compared to 7.057 million square meters during the same period in 2023.
According to the Department of Statistics' monthly report, the number of building permits issued in the Kingdom dropped by 5.6 percent, with 17,207 permits issued compared to 18,228 in 2023.
Licensed residential areas accounted for 5.10 million square meters, an annual decrease of 13 percent, while licensed non-residential areas rose by 5.9 percent to reach 1.26 million square meters.
Residential licenses made up 80.2 percent of the total licensed areas, with non-residential licenses comprising the remaining 19.8 percent.
Regionally, the central region dominated with 67.2 percent of the total licensed area, reflecting a 2.4 percent increase. The northern region contributed 22.8 percent, experiencing an 11.6 percent drop, while the southern region grew by 16.3 percent to account for 10 percent of the total area. Petra
