Social platform X suspends new account on behalf of Iran’s supreme leader
The social media platform X has suspended a new account on behalf of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that had posted messages in Hebrew.
The account was suspended on Monday morning with a message stating that X suspends accounts for rule violations, although the specific violations were not immediately known.
Elon Musk's social media platform did not promptly reply to The Associated Press' request for comment.
In a speech on Sunday, Khamenei commented that the Israeli attacks should be neither exaggerated nor minimized, but he did not explicitly urge for a counterattack.
The account started on Sunday with a Hebrew message saying: 'In the name of God, the merciful and gracious.'
The office of Khamenei has kept multiple social media accounts for the 85-year-old leader for many years, and he has previously posted messages in various languages.
Khamenei's social media account has been suspended or removed before.
In February of last year, Meta deactivated the guide's Facebook and Instagram profiles because of his backing of Hamas following their assault on Israel on October 7, 2023.
