Licensed building areas decline by 11% in 5 months
The Kingdom recorded a total of approximately 3.303 million square meters of licensed building areas from January to May 2024, reflecting an 11 percent decrease from the 3.711 million square meters reported during the same period last year.
The Department of Statistics issued a report on Monday showing that 8,714 building permits were granted during this period, down from 9,786 the previous year.
For residential purposes, licensed areas amounted to 2.647 million square meters, down 16.7 percent from the 3.179 million square meters licensed last year. On the other hand, non-residential building areas increased by 23.1 percent, reaching approximately 656,000 square meters, up from 533,000 square meters.
The report noted that residential buildings constituted 80.1 percent of the total licensed building area, whereas non-residential buildings made up 19.9 percent.
Regionally, the Central Region accounted for 68.8 percent of the total licensed building area, a slight decrease of 1.4 percent. The Northern Region contributed 22.7 percent, down 1.7 percent, while the Southern Region saw a notable increase of 19.7 percent, making up 8.5 percent of the total licensed area. Petra
