15th meeting of Jordan-EU Association Council to be held Monday
The 15th meting of the Association Council between Jordan and the European Union will be held Monday in Brussels.
The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Union, Josep Borrell.
Safadi will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Hadja Lahbib.
It is noteworthy that in 2002, Jordan and the European Union established a free trade area within the framework of the partnership agreement between the two sides that was signed in 1997, and entered into force in 2002.
In 2010, Jordan achieved an advanced status partnership with the European Union, and in 2014 the two sides established a partnership in the field of mobility that creates a flexible framework to enhance cooperation in the field of migration and mobility.
In 2016, Jordan and the European Union adopted the priorities of the European-Jordanian partnership and an agreement to address the consequences of the Syrian crisis, and in 2022 the two sides renewed the priorities of the Jordanian-European partnership (2021-2027), at the 14th Association Council meeting between the European Union and Jordan, which was held on June 2, 2022 in the Dead Sea, as it was the first time that Association Council meetings were held in a partner country in the southern neighborhood of the European Union.
Last June, the first business forum was held between the European Union and Jordan.
