Customs department thwarts cigarette smuggling attempt
The Jordan Customs Department personnel (JCD) working at the Karama border- crossing thwarted the smuggling of 6,600 cigarette packets that were secretly hidden inside one of the cargo refrigerators belonging to an Arab driver.
JCD spokesperson, Saed Ashour, said that during the transit of one of the freight containers coming from a neighboring country, the driver was suspected, and he was searched thoroughly to discover secret hideouts that had been prepared for smuggling purposes.
In the secret hideouts, 6,600 cigarette packets were found that were prepared for smuggling and secretly hidden. They were seized and the necessary legal measures were taken in accordance with the law, he added.
Ashour stressed that smuggling operations in all their forms, especially such a large quantity, pose a threat to public health and safety.
