JAF thwarts infiltration, smuggling attempt from Syria
The Northern Military Zone on Wednesday thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotic substances coming from Syrian territory, according to an official military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)- the Arab Army.
The source said that the Border Guards, in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, monitored an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross the border illegally from Syria to the Jordanian territories.
The source added that rapid reaction patrols were moved and direct shooting rules of engagement were applied to them, which led to the injury of a number of them and their retreat, accompanied by others, into the Syrian territories.
After intensifying searches and inspections of the area, large quantities of narcotic substances were found, and they were handed over to the competent authorities, the source stated.
In addition, the source affirmed that the JAF will always exert their utmost efforts to counter whoever threatens to harm Jordan's security and its citizens and will deal with 'full force and firmness' and implement the new rules of engagement, to prevent any infiltration or smuggling attempts.
