The Ukrainian Embassy in Amman said that February 24 marks two agonizing years since Russia launched its unprovoked, invasion of Ukraine, a state with the internationally recognized borders, including by Russia in a number of bilateral interstate treaties.
This assault unmatched for 80 years shattered decades of peace in Europe and brought appalling suffering upon the Ukrainian people. the Embassy added, noting that eight years of lower intensity Russian aggression preceded this moment. The war started in 2014 when Russia occupied the Ukrainian Crimea peninsula and invaded its eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
'It is important to remember that Putin's February 2022 attack was intended as a biltzkrieg, with the goal of destroying the Ukrainian state within days or weeks. Two years later, Ukraine is still standing firm and fighting back,' it noted.
'Ukraine has liberated more than 50% of the territories occupied by Russia since February 24, 2022. More than 400 thousand Russian soldiers have been killed and incapacitated since the beginning of the war. For the last 100 days Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to keep the ratio of Russian soldiers killed or wounded in one day to average in 1000. Only Avdiivka, a small town in Ukraine, claimed to have taken 47 thousand Russian soldiers, both killed in action and wounded. Ukraine organized a highly effective military campaign against Russian targets in Crimea and the Black Sea Fleet having destroyed 20% of its naval capacities in the Black Sea,' the Embassy stated.
'Our warriors are protecting the sky with the scarce resources showing exemplary audacity. Combined attacks launched by Russia employing more than 100 ballistic and cruise missiles per one attack in a range of hundreds as well as drones do not reach their intended goals. Russian planes are falling from skies paying as well for the hundreds of thousands of civilians who died from the Russian bombs in Syria,' the Embassy said.
'Ukraine’s economy is rebounding after the dramatic drop in the wake of Russia’s attack in 2022. The year-on-year GDP growth in 2023 registered 5.5%, with the agriculture sector predictably leading the way. If it wasn’t for Ukraine, the global food security would be in a much more dire situation putting millions of people one step closer to famine, including in the MENA region and Africa. Ukraine has 81 million tons harvested in grain and oil crops in 2023, of which 50 million tons were supplied to the global food market,' it added.
'Unfortunately, Russia currently has no intention of ceasing aggression, withdrawing its occupation troops from Ukraine, or pursuing diplomatic solutions. The latest interview with the Russian dictator revealed once more the true reason for the war: a classic Hitler-style land grab. Living in his own world, Putin is certain that he has a legitimate claim to anything that ever belonged to the Russian empire's or the former USSR’s borders or zone of influence. During the interview, we saw an obsessed dictator talking about dividing countries and redrawing borders as his historical right. Putin continues to send thousands of men into battle, hoping to achieve at least some minor success ahead of his sham 'elections' in March. Russia also continues to launch missile and drone strikes on peaceful Ukrainian cities, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure,' it said.
'All genuine peace efforts are consolidated in Ukraine's Peace Formula, a ten-point plan. They include not only the end of hostilities, but also food security, nuclear safety, environmental protection, energy security, justice, human rights, and respect for the UN Charter, among other things. The Peace Formula is the only serious peace proposal on the table, and we urge all peace-loving nations to join efforts in putting it into action. Ukraine is now working on a Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.'
'Putin's aggressive plans go far beyond Ukraine. Its ramifications are felt worldwide including in the Middle East. Make no mistake, with Russia undefeated, all of its resources will be dedicated to supporting the rogue regimes seeking to destroy the stability and peace here in the Middle East. Up until now Iran has been the most consistent supporter of Russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine. And Moscow is graciously rewarding Tehran by providing it with new exclusive lethal capabilities that Iran and its proxies will use to seed chaos and war upon the nations of the Middle Eastern region. Iranian capabilities to disrupt regional and global trade, endanger the once peaceful border regions and infiltrate the regional countries with its agents of influence are all direct result of Russia’s active assistance. This makes war in Ukraine not a remote regional war but a battlespace that will decide your household safety,' the Embassy noted.
The Embassy continued: 'Russia fuels chaos globally, masquerading as a champion of justice: inciting hatred, spreading mercenarism, stoking civil wars and plundering resources of entire countries with the help of its private military companies like the Wagner Group – all while blaming others and demanding applause for its own aggression against Ukraine. This cycle of chaos can be broken only by standing united in defense of peace, stability, and the rule-based order.'
The Embassy confirmed: 'The outcome of Russian aggression against Ukraine will define the line between good and evil, allowed and forbidden, in the 21st century. Ukraine can win the war and prevent the death of the rule-based world, as long we all remain committed to the cause of defending freedom from tyranny.'
