Mayor of Amman, Yousef Shawarbeh, said on Tuesday that the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) provides services to about 4.5 million people.
Shawarbeh added in a press conference with media representatives entitled “Amman Municipality... Challenges and Solutions,” held by Minister of Government Communications and official government spokesman Muhannad Mubaidin, that the GAM launched its strategic plan for the next five years in 2022 under royal patronage in the presence of His Majesty King Abdullah, noting that the plan was approved so that it would last for 5 years and 10 years for public transportation.
The public transportation strategy needs 10 years because it requires a very large infrastructure, a longer period of time, and very large sources of funding, he noted.
Shawarbeh pointed out that the municipality’s strategic plan included 212 projects at a cost of JD918 million over ten years, as this plan has two main axes. The first axis is concerned with quality of life and the environment, the second is transportation, traffic solutions and infrastructure, the third is investment, and the fourth axis is legislation.
Humanity and civilization are the main focus of this strategic plan and the projects it contains, he stated stressing that 86.2% of the plan has been completed during the past two years.
