After border clashes: We are fighting militias supported by regional powers, Minister says
Minister of Government Communications, Muhannad Mubaideen, said on Monday that the Jordanian Armed Forces announced several confrontations on the northern border with Syria recently, describing them as a result of the existing chaos and disarray of authority that leads to the growth and control of some militias and groups that lead a regional war and export drugs for Jordan and it wants to export them to the Gulf states and Arab countries.
A source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces - Arab Army reported that since the early hours of Monday morning, armed clashes have been taking place between Jordanian border guard forces and armed groups on the northern border of the Kingdom and within the area of responsibility of the Eastern Military Zone, and the army thwarted smuggling of large quantities of drugs and automatic and missile weapons.
The missile weapons that the groups tried to smuggle were RPG-type weapons, which is the first time that these groups have attempted to smuggle this type of weapon into Jordan, according to sources.
'Jordan is the target, and beyond Jordan is the target of those in charge of the drug smuggling operation. It is a major problem that is not only Jordanian as much as it is a regional problem and part of the conflict led by these militias supported by regional powers, and they unfortunately target the security and stability of Jordan,' Mubaideen commented.
This was the result of smugglers exploiting weather and climatic conditions accompanied by fog late at night until dawn to carry out smuggling operations, using great techniques, Mubaideen added.
He also stated that recent attempts by smugglers to infiltrate 'in groups' and engage in clashes with border guard forces, leading to losses.
