Commentary of Embassy of Ukraine “500 Days of Embarrassment for Russia—A Tale of Overreach and incompetence”
It has got the attention of the Embassy of Ukraine to Jordan that the so-called association of Russian-Jordanian friendship apparently acting with the support and under direct instructions of the russian embassy in Amman is planning to hold a discussion club named “russia after 500 days of the special military operation”. We in the Embassy are fond of the discussion clubs and would like to offer several insights to the participants on where in fact russia finds itself after 500 days of its military and political embarrassment since the start of the unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine.
500 days of russia's military invasion of Ukraine that started full scale on February 24, 2022 has proven to be a period highlighted by overreach and strategic incompetence of the russian regime. It has indeed become the biggest geopolitical misadventure, marked by significant losses and strategic blunders. Moreover, russia has experienced a unprecedented decline in combat effectiveness. The loss of approximately 2,500 tanks and a significant reduction in artillery capability is a testament to the decimation of the russian army.
In contrast, Ukraine has demonstrated resilience and determination throughout this ordeal. Our brave soldiers have liberated nearly 2 thousands of towns and villages since last year, effectively reducing the areas temporarily occupied by the russian terrorist forces. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have successfully repelled russian attacks on our northern regions and our capital, Kyiv. The reclamation of vast territories in the east and south has showcased Ukraine's ability to defend its sovereignty.
The Ukrainian defense forces have made notable advancements in creating a robust defense system, including a powerful sky shield capable of intercepting all types of russian missiles. This has debunked the notion of russian invincibility and exposed the vulnerabilities of their military technology. Ukraine's ability to neutralize the most combat-ready units of the russian army on the battlefield further underscores the miscalculations made by the russian leadership.
Russia's desperation for support is evident in their efforts to seek assistance from external actors like Iran. Such actions only highlight the strain that their military campaign has placed on their resources and capabilities.
Seeking glory and imperial rise Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine in 2022. In turn he has harnessed shame, global humiliation and chaos inside his own country. The world has witnessed the most puzzling and embarrassing 24 hours inside russia on June 24th. The swift and unexpected mutiny orchestrated by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of private military campaign Wagner, has shaken the Kremlin and revealed deep divisions within russia's military establishment. This episode has not only exposed the strategic vulnerability of the Putin regime but also highlighted the tenuous grip the russian president holds over his own country. It is clear that the russian regime's grip on power is weakening, as they struggle to protect even their own regions from internal threats. President Volodymyr Zelensky's remarks regarding the elusive nature of Putin and the uncertainties surrounding his support base within russia raise important questions about the stability of the regime. The fact that half of russia supports Prigozhin while the other half backs Putin is indicative of the deep divisions within russian society. These internal fissures have the potential to further destabilize the country.
As Ukraine continues its counteroffensive and prepares for the main push, it is crucial that the international community continues to build up its long term support to Ukraine. A coalition of 54 states will continue to provide aid, ammunition, and modern weapons to Ukraine that will further widen the technological gap between Ukrainian and russian forces rendering the terrorist imperial plans of russian leadership impotent.
Furthermore, unity within the European and Euro-Atlantic space will only grow and further weaken the russian regime's influence. By firmly pursuing European and Euro-atlantic integration, Ukraine will send a resolute message that the ambitions of the russian terrorist regime will not be realized.
The 500 days of russia’s embarrassment in Ukraine will serve for years as a stark reminder of the perils of overreach and the consequences of misguided military interventions.
Ukraine celebrates russia’s grave mistakes and missteps and eagerly awaits the grand finale of russia’s tragic and probably violent demise.
