Jeddah Declaration voices support for Hashemite Custodianship in Jerusalem
The Jeddah Declaration, issued Friday at the conclusion of the 32nd Arab Summit, voiced support for the historical Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and confirmed that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Affairs Department is affiliated to the Jordanian Awqaf Ministry as the exclusive authority.
The Jeddah Declaration stressed the need to continue efforts aimed at protecting the occupied city of Jerusalem and its holy sites against the condemnable efforts of the Israeli occupation aimed at changing its demography, identity, and its existing historical and legal status.
The declaration also emphasized the role of the Jerusalem Committee and the Jerusalem House in defending the city of Jerusalem and the steadfastness of its people.
The declaration reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, as one of the main factors of stability in the region, expressing condemnation the practices and violations that target the Palestinians with their lives, properties and existence.
The declaration called for intensifying efforts to reach a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian cause, and to find a real horizon for achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international references, especially the Arab Peace Initiative, relevant international resolutions and principles of international law, ensuring the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the Palestinian territories within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The declaration also urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to end the occupation, and stop the repeated attacks and violations that would obstruct the paths of political solutions and undermine international peace efforts.
