IEC: April 20 is deadline for parties to apply for status correction
The Independent Election Commission's (IEC) Board of Commissioners Monday set April 20 as the deadline for political parties wishing to correct their status to submit documents before the mid-April date designated by the law.
Article (40/b) of the Political Parties Law No. (7) of 2022 stipulates that the parties established before the law went into force shall correct their status in one year from the date of validity, according to paragraph (a) of Article (11), through a general conference, otherwise the party will be dissolved under the provisions of this law.
This requires fortifying the legal deadline with a time frame that enables the IEC to implement the provisions of the law with fairness and competence, the IEC said in a statement.
It stated that designating this date came as a prerequisite to ensure applications are considered within the set time frame in order to complete the enforcement of the provisions of the law.
The 20th of this month deadline is to enable parties looking to reconcile their situation to hold their general conference within the set period and to give ample time for parties to carry out their legal duties and responsibilities within the law, the Commission stressed.
