Two children aged 8 and 10 Sunday died after drowning in the King Abdullah Canal in the Al-Mashare'a area of the Northern Jordan Valley, Irbid.
The director of Abu Obeida Al-Jarrah Hospital, Moayad Shkour, told the Jordan News Agency that the two children were taken to the hospital after they were picked up by civil defence rescuers west of Irbid, only to be announced dead at the hospital upon arrival.
The Public Security Directorate (PSD) cautioned in a statement against swimming in places that are not designated for swimming, urging for watching children and not allowing them to play near hazardous unprotected water blocs.
