Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh to host Palestinian-Israeli talks in March
Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Hussein AlSheikh, said that a Palestinian delegation will participate Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh meeting, with a regional and international presence.
'Participation in the meeting comes to defend the rights of our Palestinian people to freedom and independence, and to demand an end to this continuous Israeli aggression against our people, and to stop all measures and policies that violate their blood and land, possessions, and sanctuaries', AlSheikh said in a tweet.
Jordan hosted last February a meeting which brought together Palestinian and Israeli senior officials, in the presence of Jordanian, American and Egyptian officials, is the first political engagement of its kind in years, and reflected a Palestinian-Israeli commitment to respecting all previous agreements, de-escalating and achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
The Palestinian Authority and Israel had confirmed their joint readiness and commitment to immediately work to end unilateral measures for a period of 3-6 months. This includes an Israeli commitment to stop discussion of any new settlement units for 4 months and to stop authorization of any outposts for 6 months.
The parties recognize the importance of upholding unchanged the historic status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem in word and practice, and emphasizes in this regard the Hashemite Custodianship / special role of Jordan.
