Khasawneh visits service, development projects in southern region
Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh Wednesday visited several service and development projects in the Al-Jafr district, Ma'an, and met with MPs community figures who laid out their list of demands.
Khasawneh said, 'Ma'an, the southern Badia and Al-Jafr and its people are the pride and support of the nation and its Hashemite leadership throughout history,' adding that it is the government's 'duty and responsibility' to address the needs and issues of its people.
He announced a cabinet decision to provide electricity and water services to agricultural lands and farms in the Al-Jafr region, adding that the decision is to empower local communities.
Khasawneh explained that farming lands would be registered in the name of the treasury according to the provisions of leasing and delegating state property and delegating or leasing the properties according to the provisions of the legislation in force.
He noted that the lease contracts for the farming lands comprise a 'clear and explicit' clause stating that the lease would be linked to the completion of the settlement work.
The Governor of Ma'an, Faisal Smairan, said the premier's visit to the Al-Jafr district is a 'translation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II for field visits and touches on the people's needs on the ground.'
MP of Saleh Abu Tayeh, who represents Al-Jafer in parliament, demanded the government provide electricity to unlicensed homes and support investment in a clothing factory to employ local women.
He called for digging wells, distributing lands to locals, increasing the social responsibility of major regional companies and supporting agriculture.
MP Eid Nuimat noted the need to direct investment to southern Badia to tackle unemployment and poverty.
