Italian team to identify source of foot-and-mouth infection in Jordan
Ministry of Agriculture announced Tuesday the arrival of a specialized team from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), headed by the regional director of the organization, and Italian experts accredited by the organization to determine the source of foot-and-mouth infection.
The team began work Monday evening and Tuesday morning by visiting Al Dhelil area to view the infected farms and determine the source of virus transmission, stressing that all results will be published successively and as soon as they become available, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that it had received the vaccine for the disease from the manufacturer in Britain, amounting to 62,700 doses, while 52,625 cows were vaccinated, including the numbers vaccinated by farmers.
The ministry expected that all cow farms will be vaccinated before the end of the week, and start easing procedures with regard to preventing the movement of animals between governorates, and gradually opening livestock markets, starting from areas far from infection.
