Foreign Ministry following up, contacting with Jordanians in Turkey
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, through the Ministry's Operations Center Unit and the Jordanian Embassy in Ankara, is following up on situation of Jordanian citizens residing in Turkey, as a result of the recent earthquakes.
In a statement, the ministry's official spokesperson, Sinan Majali, said the unit contacted a Jordanian citizen residing in the Kingdom, who said he received a call from his ex-wife, who is currently residing in the Turkish city of Antakya, informing him that the building in which she was staying alongside their daughter had collapsed as a result of the earthquake and that their daughter is still under rubble.
The consular team in Antakya has been contacted to follow up on the situation with the competent Turkish authorities, Majali said.
Majali also noted efforts of the consular team operating in Antakya are still continuing to follow up search efforts for the two missing Jordanian citizens, in coordination with the Turkish authorities, rescue teams and hospitals.
Majali said Jordanian embassy in Ankara has secured evacuation of three Jordanian families, in addition to seven Jordanian students from the affected areas to the city of Ankara, and secured housing for them in the accommodation centers approved by the municipality of Ankara.
In addition, he said evacuation of five other people has been secured from the city of Gaziantep to Ankara and then to the Kingdom.
Travel documents were also secured for a number of people wishing to leave Turkey and help them secure airline reservations, he said, adding that the cultural attaché at the embassy in Ankara contacted students enrolled at universities in the earthquake-affected areas to check on their conditions.
