Heavy downpours, snow in areas 900m above sea forecast Wednesday
Chilly, cloudy, and rainy weather conditions are forecast to prevail on Wednesday across the Kingdom, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.
Precipitation will be heavy in the early morning hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in the western region. Snow flurries are also forecast over the high mountain peaks that are 900 meters above sea level, the JMD added.
Winds will be westerly active, blowing dust in the Badia, the JMD further said, noting that the impact of the wet depression will start to taper off in the evening.
Additionally, the weather service issued alerts about flash floods in valleys and lowlands, including the Dead Sea, snow accumulation, slick roads, and poor horizontal visibility over the highlands and the Badia due to dust and dense fog.
The JMD also warned of frost formation in the late night hours over the mountainous areas and parts of the desert.
Toward Thursday, extremely cold and cloudy conditions will persist with a chance for light and scattered showers of rain in the northern and central areas of the country, the forecasters predicted.
A slight rise in mercury levels is expected on Friday, but cold conditions will remain with low clouds in the eastern region.
Temperatures in the capital Amman today will range between a high of 6 degrees Celsius and a low of 0C at night, while the port city of Aqaba will see a fair 19C, sliding to 10C at night.
