Iraq stresses importance of bolstering security cooperation with Jordan
Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul-Amir Shammari stressed the importance of enhancing joint security cooperation between Jordan and Iraq.
During his meeting on Thursday with the Jordanian media delegation, which is visiting Baghdad at the official invitation of Iraqi Journalists Syndicate (IJS), Shammari highlighted importance of Jordan's 'pivotal' role and its constant keenness on continuous coordination with Iraq to control border crossings, prevent smuggling operations, and eliminate hotbeds of terrorism.
The minister also highlighted Iraq's security situation and ways to strengthen bilateral relations, noting that Iraq has gained 'remarkable' expertise in the field of combating terrorism.
Referring to cooperation with Jordan in the field of military, security and border training, he said the number of entry visas will be increased and their application mechanism will be updated to become electronic to facilitate citizens' transactions.
He stressed the importance of forming a joint media committee, given the importance of the media's role in highlighting efforts and achievements of various institutions, lauding IJS's positive cooperation with the Iraqi interior ministry.
For his part, Jordanian ambassador to Iraq, Muntaser Oqla, affirmed the 'deep-rooted' bilateral relations, referring to continued efforts to reach the highest cooperation levels between the two countries' authorities to support Iraq's positions.
IJS Head and President of the Federation of Arab Journalists (FAJ), Moayad Lami, said joint communication is ongoing to network with Jordan's media institutions, which are being invited to further exchange expertise and highlight Iraq's future plans at the global arena.
