Initiatives worth JD88mln outlined in economic modernization scheme
The Economic Modernization Vision's executive program has outlined seven initiatives worth JD88 million for the 2023-2025 period.
As part of the initiatives, the government's recently-issued program has given 24 priorities to the sustainable environment sector, including green economy, green urban development, and green growth sectors.
Schemes in the green economy sector include developed policies that encourage converting to a green economy, increased green activities in industrial facilities, agricultural projects for sewage treatment plants, as well as increasing waste management facilities to a total of 18 facilities.
Moreover, the program guarantees a safe waste management environment by designating recycling locations and embarking on solid waste management and segregation at source projects, in addition to a venture designated for the safe management of waste containing mercury.
It also entails protection for biodiversity and natural habitats by launching a national research platform for climate change, waste management, transportation, and energy. In addition, green jobs would be provided under the scheme to improve green infrastructure through labor-intensive measures.
As for the green growth sector, the program focused on promoting the concept of smart farming and nature-based solutions through an initiative to plant 10 million trees over 10 years.
The green urban development sector's projects comprise the integration of the nexus between water, energy, and food security to boost environment-friendly outcomes by implementing a project that builds climate change resilience and forming a joint council for the water and agriculture industries.
